Thousands Brave Rain For July 4th Celebration In Baltimore

BALTIMORE (WJZ)—Even Mother Nature couldn't halt Charm City's favorite firework display of the year.

Despite a rainy night, thousands descended on the Inner Harbor for an 18-minute 4th of July celebration.

Some visitors were ready for the rain.

"We knew it was going to rain so we just brought our umbrellas," said Teisha Winder.

Many like Winder just couldn't wait for the fireworks to light up the harbor.

"I think we have the best show in the entire country, right here in Baltimore," said one visitor.

A massive crowd was mirrored by a heavy police presence on both the ground and the water, making sure alcohol stays in the bars and no illegal fireworks are in sight.

"Setting off fireworks within Baltimore City is both illegal and dangerous," said Baltimore Police Col. Melissa Hyatt.

Officers were even getting into the festive spirit themselves.

Rusudan Tsereteli was enjoying her first 4th of a July as U.S. citizen.

"You have a great country and now it's my country as well," she said.

In a city with rich history it's a day to honor the men and women who put their lives on the line to protect the land of the free and the home of the brave.

"Freedom, freedom and freedoms. That's what makes your country and now mine as well, so unique," said Rusudan.
