Mark Viviano Talks Scuffling Orioles, Possible All-Stars

Mark Viviano from WJZ-TV Channel 13 joined the Scott Garceau Show with Jeremy Conn to talk about the Orioles five-game losing streak, potential Oriole All-Stars and the likelihood of the club making a move at the trade deadline.

The Orioles have lost five straight with the starting pitchers accumulating a 7.91 ERA in the first seven games of their nine game West Coast trip. Viviano talked about the starting pitching's struggles. "Even when the Orioles have had success, the starting pitching still hasn't been that good…When you face good teams, they will expose whatever weaknesses you have."

The MLB All-Stars are set to be announced tonight. Viviano gave his thoughts on how many Orioles he thinks will be selected to the Midsummer Classic. "I think you can make an argument for four or five. You might be able to stretch it with a guy like [Brad] Brach, who though certainly worthy, I don't know that there's a spot for him because they're so many other good relievers."

The MLB trade deadline is just a few weeks away and the Orioles sit two games up in the AL East. Viviano said he expects the team to make a move for a relief pitcher. "Dan Duquette's going to do something…If you line up what you have to offer, the Orioles are pretty far down the list on what they can offer other teams for top-line pitching. So, I would anticipate based on that, barring trading somebody who you would otherwise think they would never trade like Jonathan Schoop or Kevin Gausman, they're probably going to get a reliever."
