BALTIMORE (WJZ) — An early morning fire destroyed a barn in the 200 block of Farmhouse Lane in Lothian.

Firefighters responded to the scene just before 1:45 a.m. to find the barn already starting to collapse.

They requested a second alarm to assist with water supply and for the ability to rotate personnel due to the high heat and humid conditions.

Sixty firefighters from Annapolis, Anne Arundel County, Calvert County and Prince George’s County got the blaze under control in about an hour, although they remained on the scene for several hours, until about 6:30 a.m., to continue soaking hot spots.

Paramedics transported one Anne Arundel firefighter to the Anne Arundel Medical Center for the treatment of a heat-related illness. His condition is not believed to be serious.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by members of the Anne Arundel County Fire Department Fire and Explosives Investigation Unit.
