Phil Backert, from, joined Rob to talk about the roller coaster ride that has been the last few weeks for the Orioles.

Coming back from the All-Star break the Birds suffered a four-game losing streak, including three straight to the Yankees. They responded with a four-game win streak to regain the lead in the AL East.

Backert says it comes down to starting pitchers and gives credit to the stopper, Chris Tillman, as well as guys like Kevin Gausman and Dylan Bundy. Phil and Rob also talk about the strength of the AL East, with it holding three teams with at least 50 wins. The pitching conversation naturally turns into a “who should the Orioles trade for?” discussion.

Phil says that there isn’t much out there that would be much better than what the O’s already have. He also tells Rob that Melvin Upton Jr., who has been linked to trade rumors involving the O’s, would be a better option via trade than anyone else in his opinion.
