Storms Bring Heavy Rain, Flooding, Lightning Strikes To Md.
ESSEX, Md. (WJZ) -- Severe weather made its way through parts of Maryland on Thursday. While the storms may be gone, traces of heavy rain, flooding and massive lightning strikes have been left behind.
One of those strikes hit Casey Lipkinski's house in Essex while her family was sitting on the porch.
"A pop that made my ears ring. My boyfriend said it felt like--I don't think he's ever heard a grenade up close--but that's what he said it sounded like," she said.
The lightning busted off pieces of wood, shattered a window and even sent one person to the hospital for precautionary reasons.
"It was more like a pop. We didn't know that the glass shattered until we went in the house and saw there was glass all over the floor," said Lipkinski.
In Stevenson, a tree came tumbling down, missing a car by just inches.
Along the Eastern Shore, lightning struck a bank administration building in Willards, which erupted in flames. It forced employees to evacuate and caused close to $1 million in damage.
In Talbot County, social media blew up with pictures of dramatic funnel clouds in Easton. There's no word of any damage.
"It could've been any of us, and I'm glad that everybody is OK," said Lipkinski.
The Howard County Fire Department says a lightning strike also caused a fire at a Clarksville home. No one was injured.
Due to the storms, dozens of flights were canceled and delayed at BWI Airport.
