Lombardi: Campanaro Is 'Worth Waiting On'

Tony Lombardi from Russell St. Report joined the Scott Garceau Show with Jeremy Conn to give us an update on Ravens training camp.

Ravens fourth-round pick Alex Lewis stepped in at first-team left tackle after Ronnie Stanley went down with an injury during Saturday's practice. Lombardi thinks Lewis will be able to contribute this season. "Alex Lewis is one of those feisty, combative kind of competitors. Almost like the gritty approach that Marshal Yanda had when he first came from Iowa…A close observer of the team said don't be surprised if Lewis is starting at left guard before it's all said and done."

Slot receiver Michael Campanaro is battling injuries once again, but Lombardi thinks he's worth waiting on. "I think that he brings so much to the table when he's healthy that it's almost worth having to deal with these little injuries that keep sidelining him. I know that that's frustrating for fans. It's frustrating for the coaching staff because they know what he can do when he's on the field. I think he's special enough that they should probably wait a little while until Keenan Reynolds could be a healthier version of Michael Campanaro."

One of the more competitive position battles at camp has been at returner. Lombardi predicted who will win the jobs. "I think the guy that's right now the best kick returner may not have a spot on the team and that's Kaelin Clay…I think Chris Moore could be that guy. He's looked pretty decent when he's been on the field, but then again he's got to get back on the field…I think Campanaro would be the punt returner."
