Maryland Live! Casino Breaks Ground on 17-Story Luxury Hotel

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A big day for the Maryland Live! casino, which hopes to hit the jackpot with a new luxury hotel.

A ceremonial groundbreaking was held Tuesday for the $200 million flagship Live! Hotel, which expects to open its doors in the first few months of 2018--expanding its footprint roughly 350,000 square feet.

"The tallest building in Anne Arundel County, a fabulous new world class hotel, really a great time in our county's history," said County Executive Steve Schuh during Tuesday's ground breaking.

Officials telling WJZ the new 17-story hotel will connect to the casino and will offer a number of amenities to guests. The expansion will also have a major economic impact both locally and to the entire state.

"Not only for the revenue that's generated through the gaming operations to benefit the state but also for the employment," said Senator James "Ed" DeGrange.

There will be 310 rooms and an event center, designed to house a 1,500-seat concert venue and banquet seating for up to 800 guests.

But this hotel isn't the only game in town.

Soon the MGM National Harbor in Prince George's County will open its doors putting the pressure on the state's other five casinos.

Officials say the LIVE! hotel will add about 400 jobs to the local economy.
