Help People Suffering from Life-Threatening Illnesses By Dining Out
BALTIMORE (WJZ)—Moveable Feast delivers more than 840,000 meals every year to those with HIV/AIDS, cancer and other life threatening illnesses and on Thursday you can help them by just dining out.
The Maryland organization is busier than ever as volunteers prepare thousands of meals every week for those who are critically ill.
"Moveable Feast is an organization that's been around since 1989," said Tim Addicks, with Moveable Feast board of directors. "We provide medically tailored home delivered meals for folks suffering from HIV/AIDS and other life threatening illnesses in Baltimore, the surrounding counties and Maryland's Eastern Shore."
Thursday is "Dining Out for Life", an annual event that raises money for the Baltimore non-profit with 63 restaurants participating, including Gertrude's at the BMA.
Doug Wetzel, the executive chef at Gertrude's says they will be donating 50-percent of their proceeds to benefit Moveable Feast.
Last year, the organization provided meals for nearly 6,000 clients in Baltimore City, the surrounding counties and Maryland's Eastern Shore.
So Thursday's event is more important than ever.
"Pascal's Chop House in Easton is donating 100-percent of their proceeds [Thursday] evening, so is Shake Shack on East Pratt Street in the Inner Harbor," said Addicks. "That's as cool as it gets, we couldn't do it without all the support."
It's a chance to help a great organization and make one meal matter.
"It's always a great night: spend lots of money, get some dessert as well its always worth it and its to benefit a great cause," Wetzel says.
