Survivors Sip And Paint For Breast Cancer With The Ravens
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- As you may know, the NFL puts its resources behind several causes and charities. For the Ravens, they're zoned in on breast cancer.
It's a big deal if you make it onto the field during the NFL's Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but these women will tell you about an even bigger deal.
It's been 12 years since Rose Pawlowski beat breast cancer. She and 99 other survivors, along with those currently battling breast cancer, were recently in the club level, having a glass of wine and sitting down to paint a special Ravens jersey.
"We want to celebrate life, so we have these ladies out here to celebrate them being survivors. And some of them may be going through treatment now and having a little bit of a tough time, and we want to give them something to take their mind off of things. That's really what this is all about," said Emily Scerba.
Between photos with the players and all the activities, a community forms.
Their process is killing the cancer trying to kill them, as they are among the 1 in 8 women who will battle the disease.
"It gives them hope that there is a cure, and there's hope for them, and that they may be going through a hard time right now, but there is light at the end of the tunnel," said Pawlowski.
The Ravens are planning to make the event even bigger next year.
