COLLEGE PARK, Md. (WJZ)–  A controversial event has been canceled in College Park and the journalist scheduled to speak claims he’s being censored by the University of Maryland.

Milo Yiannopoulos will not be speaking Wednesday as scheduled, but tells WJZ he won’t be silenced.

“They’re in big trouble with us. Big trouble,” said Milo Yiannopoulos, the far-right Breitbart senior editor.

“I don’t necessarily blame the university, but they didn’t necessarily do everything they could to help us out with this,” said Shubham Chattopadhyay, vice president of Terps for Trump.

The organization Terps for Trump invited Yiannopoulus, whose controversial message is often met with protests.

After months of planning with administrators, according to President Matt Morris, the University switched the location two weeks before the event and estimated it would cost $9500.

Even the negotiated price was too high and the event was canceled.

“We don’t know whether that was the school really trying to make a responsible decision with security or whether that was really trying to impose a cost upon us,” said Morris.

The University cited security concerns, even a bomb threat during a Milo event at a campus in Florida.

The University tells WJZ it had nothing to do with the decision to cancel. Saying:

“As an institution that thrives on respectful exchange of ideas and opinions, we support the fundamental right to freedom of speech.”

A message Yiannopoulos isn’t buying, calling it a roundabout way of keeping his message off campus.

“Whether they like it or not, come hell or high water. I will speak at the University of Maryland because the students want me,” said Yiannopoulus.

Terps for Trump says since the event was canceled, several people, including professors, have volunteered to put up the money needed to make the speech happen.

Yiannapoulos tells WJZ his fight to speak on campus is not over.
