BALTIMORE (WJZ) — It may not be Halloween yet, but they’re already preparing for winter downtown, as the Pandora Ice Rink at the inner harbor is back with a full list of family events for the season.

It’s the Waterfront Partnership’s third year bringing an ice rink to Baltimore. Each year getting even better and attracting thousands of visitors.

“An ice skating rink? I mean where do you see an ice skating rink near a harbor?” said one excited visitor.

For the third season, Waterfront Partnership is transforming the Inner Harbor into a winter wonderland.

“People last year came down sometimes every weekend, or several weekends in a row, something a whole family can afford and do together,” said Laurie Schwartz, President of the Waterfront Partnership.

In 2015, more than 18,000 visitors laced up their skates. And this year, they’re expecting even more.

New this year, the ice rink is even bigger with extended hours.

“I just love it, put an ice skating rink anywhere, I’ll show up,” said a local man.

It will be open 7 days a week. There will also be special events and shows on the ice throughout the season. The Partnership hopes it will give a big boost to the surrounding businesses.

“Create attractions for local residents to come down and enjoy the harbor with an inexpensive attraction,” said Schwartz.

The ice rink has become a Charm City holiday tradition, for all ages and levels of experience.

“It makes it more appealing to want to come here with kids, there’s a lot to do,” said one visiting woman.

The ice rink officially opens on Veterans Day on November 11. All military service members and veterans will be able to skate for free that day.

The ice rink will be open through January 16.
