Pedestrian Hit, Killed By Deputy In St. Mary's County

LEXINGTON PARK, Md. (AP) — Authorities say a sheriff's deputy struck and killed a pedestrian in St. Mary's County.

The sheriff's office in the southern Maryland county says in a news release that the pedestrian was hit shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday.

The deputy was driving south on Chancellors Run Road in the Lexington Park area when police say the pedestrian entered the roadway.

The sheriff's office says neither alcohol nor speed appear to be factors in the collision, which remains under investigation. The names of the officer and the pedestrian have not yet been released.
