Local Chefs Host Benefit Dinner To Support 'No Kid Hungry'

BALTIMORE ( WJZ) -- More than 16 million children nationwide lack the means to get enough nutritious food on a regular basis. And now six top chefs from the Baltimore region are teaming up to help end childhood hunger.

One in five Maryland children face hunger every day. As the owner and Executive Chef of the Food Market in Hampden, Chad Gauss knows good food brings people together, but can it do even more than that?

"I think the 'more' to me is food has to be soul satisfying, and you should eat until your heart's content. That's the way I eat food, with that being said, I just think its important especially for children to feel content," said Chef Chad Gauss, of the Food Market.

Chef Gauss is hosting the first ever "No Kid Hungry" dinner, a multi course event to end childhood hunger in Maryland.

"They are going to be raising, approximately, we hope, $30,000 dollars for us and with this money we will be able to feed 300,000 more children in Baltimore City," said Marly Cardona Moz, No Kid Hungry.

Leave it to those who know food best, to use their talents to solve a serious issue.

The special dinner at the Food Market on November 14th will feature Chef Gauss, Brian Voltaggio, Aja Cage from Gunther & Co., Zack Mills from Wit & Wisdom, Neill Howell from the Corner Pantry and Ben Lefenfeld from La Cuchara.

"We chose that team because especially as chefs, being so close to food, can't imagine someone going without food."

"There are bigger things to think about than where your next meal is coming from. I think that should have been left in history to wonder where your next meal is coming from."

The event is next Monday, November 14th.
