Toronto Police: 2 Arrested In Beating Death Of Baltimore Man
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Police in Canada have arrested two men in the murder of a University of Baltimore student. Julian Jones was kicked, punched and left for dead on a Toronto sidewalk.
Now, police in Canada have officially announced the arrests of two men -- 24-year-old Kamari Folkesand and 25-year-old Kenneth Omorogbe -- young men with criminal records, who appeared in court on second-degree murder charges.
They are still looking for one more attacker. That person is described as a white male in his late 20s.
"The Toronto police officers who knew the offenders identified them to me, and that's how we found out who they were," said Det. Sgt. Gary Giroux, Toronto Ontario Canada Police.
Jones' younger brother and father embraced a candlelight vigil Wednesday. The pain is fresh, but their resolve to get justice is strong.
"If they don't get these people to justice, they'll kill others," said Tobias Jones, victim's father.
Police stressed Julian and his friends were not the aggressors, just preyed upon by a group looking for a fight. They say the case hinges on surveillance video and cell phone video one of Julian's friends took at the scene.
"So I would take that video and I would play it for the witnesses and I would play it for the friends of the deceased and say, 'OK, narrate it... Who's this? Who's this? What's their role?'" said Giroux.
Julian's friends are now back in Maryland. Interviews with them will be crucial to close the case.
"I may have to go there or I may have to ask the Baltimore, Maryland police service to do that on our behalf," Giroux said.
"Julian was one who was at peace with the world, and the fact that this happened to him is so ironic and unfair that it's just unbelievable," said Timothy Morris, whose son was friends with Julian.
Suspect Kenneth Omorogbe was accused of punching a man twice in the face during an attack last year. He was also convicted of an attack two years ago, when he kicked a man.
Jones was set to be married in the spring.
