Police Continue Search For Missing University Of Maryland Student

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (WJZ) -- The search continues for a missing student at the University of Maryland, 21-year-old Kaitlyn George. Police and family are pleading for the public's help to find her.

Detectives are interviewing her friends and potential witnesses. Her family says she was supposed to go camping Thursday with her boyfriend but never showed up.

"It is out of character she's a responsible young lady. She takes leadership training she got certified in outdoor rescue last summer," said Jeanine Bryde, George's Aunt.

Flyers looking for her have been posted all over campus.

"That's a long time now that she's been missing, it's really scary," said UMD student Kima Oudit.

George, who's from New Jersey, was last spotted Thursday afternoon around 4:00 p.m.

Police say the 21-year-old student was last seen at Allegany Hall on the south side of campus, heading towards the Eppley Rec Center. Her family says she was being harassed before she went missing, but police don't suspect foul play.

Kima Oudit saw the student's mother was on campus Friday morning, who was frantically asking students if they've seen her daughter.

"She was screaming about to be in tears, her hair was frazzled, slippers on, looked like she woke up and ran out," said Oudit.

"She was tripping over herself, it hurt my heart so bad to see that," she said.

At this time, police say they have no reason to suspect foul play but they they're investigating any and all leads.

"Everyone is concerned here including us, we do not expect foul play but have a team of detectives working," said Sgt. Rosanne Hoaas, University of Maryland Police.

Uncertainty, that's left all of College Park searching for both George, and answers.

"I'm pretty worried. I don't know like how she could have just gone missing all of a sudden," said University of Maryland Student Matt Bugenhagen.

Right now, police are unable to track her cell phone. She did not have a car on campus.

There was surveillance video in the area where George was last seen, police say they're actively reviewing the video.

She's described as 5'3 120 pounds, last seen wearing a green jacket, black leggings and a black and white backpack.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of 21-year-old Kaitlyn George are urged to call the University of Maryland Police department immediately.
