Leader Of BGF Gang Sentenced To Life in Prison For Fed. Racketeering Conspiracy

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A U.S. District Judge has sentenced several members of the Black Guerilla Family gang, including its leader, on Monday for racketeering and drug conspiracies.

BGF leader Mark Bazemore, 31, also known a Uncle Mark, was handed a life sentence.  Michael Smith Jr., 30, also known as Mikey or Lil Mike received a sentence of at least 17 years behind bars.

Prosecutors said both men, who are from Baltimore, were in charge of the gang's drug operation.  Bazemore was convicted of one murder and one attempted murder of former associates back in 2014.

Timothy Hurtt, 45 also known as Uncle Tim, was sentenced to 27 years in prison.  According to prosecutors, the Baltimore County man was also heavily involved in the BGF's drug dealing network.

A federal jury convicted the three men in June.

On Tuesday, a fourth gang member was also sentenced. Irvin Vincent, 28, of Hanover, received 18 years in prison for his role in the gang.

The gang has been hugely involved in drug and gun dealing operations throughout the city and neighboring counties.
