Michael Phelps Officially Retires From Swimming

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -  Michael Phelps is officially hanging up the goggles...for now.

According to The Washington Post, Phelps has filed paperwork to remove his name from the U.S. drug-testing program, making him ineligible for any high-level competition.

Following the 2012 London Games, Phelps announced his retirement and removed his name from the drug-testing program before adding his name back on the list prior to his 2013 comeback.

The 23-time gold medalist has had quite the year. He and then-fiancé Nicole Johnson welcomed their first child in May. He then got married in a secret ceremony back in June, before heading to Rio to win five more gold medals and a silver in this summers Olympic games.

The Maryland native is recognized as the most decorated Olympian of all time.
