Towson Elementary School Wins Visit from the Ravens

BALTIMORE (WJZ)-- Monday more than 500 students at one local elementary school, were rewarded with a visit from a few Ravens players for their hard work at staying active.

It's called the Play 60 Challenge and it's the Ravens push to get kids to move and kids at West Towson Elementary didn't pass up their chance to succeed.

"There's this thing called play 60 and we have to play for 60 minutes each day, and if the whole school participated the most, then the Ravens would come," said William Ashley, a third grader at West Towson Elementary.

For four weeks students played and stayed active for hours, outperforming many other schools in the area.

"Well, I jumped on the trampoline and played with my friend Leah. I did so many stuff,"said first grader Kaylee Donovon.

Those hours have turned into a reward as promised with a visit from Poe and Ravens' players center Matt Skura and defensive tackle Michael Pierce.

"I was like, 'oh my gosh,' I can't find to words to say. It's so amazing," said William.

Students were able to ask the players and cheerleaders questions but most importantly, they got to move.

"I think it's all about the energy you bring. The kids are going to mimic anything you do, so if they see you out there having fun, they are going to try to do the same thing. I just want everybody to get loose and enjoy their time," said Michael Pierce.

A fun time for students and even the teachers.

"We've already talked about doing it again next year. I feel like we're going to have even more kids participate next year," said P.E. teacher Chuck Yanney.

The Play 60 Challenge started back in 2006, as a partnership between the American Heart Association and the National Football League.
