2, Including Deputy, Taken To Shock Trauma After Sykesville Crash

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Two people, including a Carroll County Sheriff's Deputy, have been sent to Shock Trauma after a three-vehicle crash on Route 32 in Sykesville Wednesday morning.

Around 10:18 a.m. Wednesday, Carroll County Sheriff's Deputies and Sykesville Police responded to the area of Route 32 and Springfield Avenue for a three vehicle collision involving a Carroll County Sheriff's Office Deputy.

The initial investigation indicates that a Nissan Titan, driven by 49-year-old Theodore Pierre Ely of Union Bridge, was travelling South on Route 32 when the driver lost control and crossed the center line.

The vehicle collided with Deputy First Class Brett Etzler's marked Sheriff's Office patrol vehicle, which was travelling northbound, sending it off of the roadway.

A third vehicle, a Chevrolet Tahoe driven by 45-year-old Ziad Bader, was following Deputy Etzler northbound on Route 32 and was also struck by the Nissan. There were no reported injuries to the driver or passengers of the Tahoe.

Deputy Etzler and Ely were both transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center by ambulance.

Their injuries are not considered life threatening.

All three vehicles were towed. No signs of impairment were observed during the initial investigation. Any potential charges will be determined at the conclusion of the investigation.

Anyone who witnessed this collision, or may have observed the involved vehicles prior to the collision, is asked to contact M/D DeVivio at 410-386-5900.
