New Program Offering High Quality Apprenticeships

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- TranZed Apprenticeship Services is the first program of its kind in Maryland, offering high-quality apprenticeships as a new opportunity for students and people changing careers.

"It still embraces a full-time job experience where you are a paid full-time employee, while you are also taking some classes that complement your on-the-job training," said Kimberly Neal, TranZed Apprenticeship Services.

The apprenticeship program provides young people with life skills and business experience.

"This is simply an alternate to college," Neal said.

"Being able to have that real-world experience and having the experience of just the apprenticeship that I gained from that was invaluable," a former apprentice said.

Now, T.A.S. is looking to form additional partnerships with area businesses and education providers to expand its apprenticeship opportunities.

Companies like Alliance Technology Group have partnered with TranZed.

"We can teach the skills and we can have apprentices come through. What we cannot do is teach the passion and the inquisitiveness. And frankly, what TranZed has done and why we've partnered with them is because they get that," said Josh Williams, Alliance Technology Group.

The apprenticeship provides stackable credentials, including a nationally recognized certification from the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation upon completion of the program.
