Town Bars Resident from Selling Guns from His Home
MOUNT AIRY, Md. (AP) — A Maryland resident's hotly contested proposal to sell guns out of his home has been rejected.
The Mount Airy Town Council voted 4-0, with one abstention, against amending a town ordinance to allow Mike Wonsala to operate a business focused on selling and repairing antique firearms.
Councilman Scott Strong said he wasn't voting against Wonsala's proposed business, but instead against the ordinance, which he considered too broad.
Wonsala was planning to get a type 1 Federal Firearm License, which allows dealers in firearms that are not destructive devices, but Strong says the ordinance would also allow the possibility of someone opening a business with a higher license class.
Wonsala says he sent council members a list of amendments to further restrict the ordinance. He plans to file an appeal.
