Liquor Chairman Charged With DUI Outside New Maryland Casino

OXON HILL, Md. (WJZ) -- The chairman of the Prince George's County liquor commission has been charged with DUI.

Charles Caldwell, III, was arrested at the grand opening celebration of the new MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill on Thursday, according to WUSA9.

Caldwell was involved in a crash outside the resort around midnight, police say.

When officers arrived, they noticed a "strong odor" of alcohol.

The 72-year-old then refused to take a breathalyzer and police say he failed a field sobriety test.

He was arrested and released a few hours later.

No one involved in the crash was injured.

Caldwell was appointed by Governor Larry Hogan.
