The Norris & Long Show Best Of - Week Of April 22nd

This week's edition of the Norris & Long Show best of features interviews with Mike Bordick on his time playing for the O's, Rob Carlin on the Capitals struggling with the Maple Leafs in the first round, and Craig Heist of 106.7 The Fan in D.C. on the Wizards handling their business against the Hawks in round one so far.

MIKE BORDICK

Former Baltimore Orioles shortstop Mike Bordick joined Ed and Rob as part of Wayback Wednesday to talk about when he first joined the Orioles.

Bordick signed with the Orioles during the 1996 off season to take over at shortstop for Hall of Fame and Gold Glove shortstop Cal Ripken, Jr., as Ripken moved to third base.

Bordick remembered the 1997 season with the Orioles saying, "going wire to wire, making it to the playoffs and feeling like we were the best team in baseball...I think the Os, myself included, thought it looked like it could be the start of a dynasty."

When asked about the feeling after the team's exit from the playoffs that year, Mike said, "it was a little shocking to be honest with you, we had the big series against the Mariners and we kind of rolled through them...I think it caught everyone by surprise and some bats went cold."

Mike went on to talk about how the community of Baltimore accepted him and how he and his family love the city and still live here.

Bordick currently announces the play-by-play's for the team on MASN.

ROB CARLIN

Rob Carlin, who covers the Capitals for Comcast Sportsnet Mid-Atlantic, joined Ed and Rob to talk about the Capitals letting their first round series against the Maple Leafs slip away.

The Capitals fell behind 2-1 in the series with the Maple Leafs. Carlin said, "credit to Toronto... they're playing better than anybody expected. The Caps are getting out coached. We all knew Mike Babcock is probably the best coach in the NHL, but we thought the Caps talent would overcome the coaching deficiencies."

As for what's going wrong for the Caps, Rob said, "the Caps are making uncharacteristic mistakes, last night on the tying goal Kevin Shattenkirk and Brooks Orpik took the same guy behind the net...it's like this team carries 40 years of history on their backs."

Rob also talked about some of the post game comments that led you to believe the Maple Leafs are just having fun while the Caps struggle under the pressure of expectations.

All three games so far have been decided in overtime.

CRAIG HEIST

Craig Heist covers Washington sports for 106.7 the Fan in DC. Heist joined Ed and Rob to talk about the Wizards winning game one and the Capitals struggling again in the playoffs.

Craig started by talking about the Wizards and what is the key for them to advance through this series saying, "I think the bottom line for this team is to play defense and a lot of that leads to their transition game...that game yesterday was very stagnant on both sides in the 2nd quarter."

As for John Wall and what he brings to the table, Craig said, "he's a one man fast break and you can't stop him, the Hawks will have to try to find a way to slow him down...he also had his jump shot going and was hitting threes in the third quarter, Atlanta has their hands full if he's at the top of his game."

Craig also went on to talk about the Capitals and their first round series against the Maple Leafs which stands tied at one as the series shifts to Toronto tonight.
