Reopening of Maryland Playground Postponed by Rain

COLUMBIA, Md. (AP) — The reopening of a Maryland playground that was destroyed by fire has been postponed.

Howard County officials say the playground at Huntington Park in Columbia will now reopen on Thursday. The ribbon-cutting ceremony had been scheduled for Tuesday but was put off because of rain.

The park has been closed since May 2015, when a fire caused $40,000 in damage.

After the fire, an 18-year-old was charged with two counts of malicious burning. But county prosecutors now say they've determined that the fire was accidental and the charges were dropped.

Howard County Executive Allan Kittleman and State Sen. Guy Guzzone are among the officials scheduled to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
