Baltimore Firefighter Pleads Guilty To Assaulting Bicyclist

BALTIMORE (AP) -- A Baltimore firefighter has pleaded guilty to assaulting a bicyclist during an argument at a neighborhood meeting about a bike lane.

The Baltimore Sun reports Charles Mudra was sentenced this week to a year of unsupervised probation. Court records say Mudra tackled city employee Austin Davis at a meeting in May. Neither attended the meeting in their public capacity. Mudra remains employed with the department.

The newspaper says this is one of several clashes between the department and bicycle advocates over bike lanes. Canton residents raised concerns last summer about emergency vehicles not having enough room on roads, prompting the city to announce it would remove a bike lane. But then bicycling advocacy group Bikemore sued the city, stopping the removal. This sparked an ongoing feud between the two groups.
