14-Year-Old Arrested For Murder, Rape Of 83-Year-Old

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- Police have arrested a 14-year-old accused of murdering and sexually assaulting an 83-year-old woman.

Tyrone Harvin has been charged with first-degree murder, first-degree rape, and other related charges in the death of Dorothy Mae Neal.

Neal was found unresponsive in her apartment and pronounced dead the next day at a local hospital.

Police Investigating Deadly Assault Of 83-Year-Old Woman

"It's sickening, it's sickening and it's sad," A West Baltimore resident said.

Investigators said it was last week when neighbors at the Rosemont Garden Apartments were concerned after not seeing Neal for days. When police arrived, they found Neal inside her apartment, unresponsive and the victim of an apparent result.

She died at the hospital hours later.

Now, less than a week later, police announced an arrest in the case, delivering justice to friends and family of a woman known for a big smile and a big heart.

Almost 70 years separate the victim and the suspect in this case.

Police said it was 14-year-old Harvin who was doing chores for 83-year-old Neal when he beat her, raped her and left her to die.

"I don't think any of us were thinking a 14-year-old would be capable of something like this," said T.J. Smith, spokesperson for Baltimore City Police.

It is one of the most disturbing crimes Baltimore City has endured and in a bizarre twist, a 14-year-old is the unexpected suspect behind it all.

"We can tell you without even checking our records this is the youngest person we've charged in Baltimore this year and probably the last couple of years with murder," Smith said.
