Official Accused Of Mocking Girl's Sex Assault Put On Leave

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A principal in the nation's capital accused of mistreating a student's sexual assault claim has been placed on leave.

The Washington Post reports Roosevelt High School Principal Aqueelha James was placed on paid leave Thursday. A civil rights lawsuit against James and the D.C. government centers on a June meeting about the assault.

The freshman says a boy forced her into a bathroom, kissed her and tried putting a hand up her dress. She left the meeting and her mother followed, leaving behind a device that recorded James mocking the girl's clothing and saying she planned to "embarrass her ass."

The school system says it already investigated. D.C. Public Schools interim Chancellor Amanda Alexander says it will be reviewed again.

The newspaper says James hasn't responded.
