Good Samaritan Stabbed To Death In Baltimore City

BALTIMORE, Md. (WJZ)-- Baltimore City Police are investigating after a 52-year-old woman is stabbed to death while trying to give money to a woman who claimed she needed help feeding her baby.

Investigators say the victim, identified as Jacquelyn Smith of Harford County, and her family were driving in the 1000 block of Valley Street around 12:30a.m. when they noticed a woman who looked to be carrying a baby or something wrapped to look like a baby and hold a cardboard sign stating "Please help me feed my baby."

The victim, who was in the front passenger seat, rolled down the window of the car to give the woman money when a black male who looked to be 30-years-old and about 6-feet-tall with a goatee approached the vehicle to thank the family for the money.

The male suspect, then reached into the car to grab the female victim's wallet when a struggle ensued.  Then male suspect then produced a knife and stabbed the victim in the torso before fleeing the area on foot with the female suspect who was holding the sign.

The victim made it to an area hospital but died from her injuries.

"When you see something like this happen to a Good Samaritan it kind of makes you stop and think," said Robert Stokes, Baltimore City's District 12 councilman. "It makes you stop and don't roll your windows down because those kinds of things make people that really want to help people on the corner saying they got to feed their children not to do it. That's sad and my condolences go out to the family,"

Police are looking for information on the killer.

"Detectives did talk to the two family members who were in the car. Certainly, we can all imagine how distraught they were after witnessing something like that. Right now, we just hope someone in the community will come forward," said Jeremy Silbert, Baltimore City Police.

Homicide detectives are looking to identify both the male and female suspects. The man is the primary suspect but are also looking for the woman holding the sign to determine if the two were in any way related.

Anyone with information about this deadly stabbing is asked to contact police at 410-396-2100 or Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7-Lockup.
