Woman, Boy Killed; 2 Children Injured After Truck Crashes Into SW Baltimore Shopping Center

BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Under the glow of police lights, investigators searched for answers in the parking lot of a southwest Baltimore shopping center where a truck barreled into the side of a building late Friday afternoon, killing a woman and boy, and injuring two girls.

It's still unclear, police said, if the victims and survivors were inside the truck or hit by the truck.

Investigators are also trying to determine what caused the deadly crash.

"There's no indication right now that this was intentional," said Baltimore Police spokesperson, Jeremy Silber. "but still, we're very, very early in the investigation."

He also said the man that was driving the truck stayed on the scene and spoke with the department's crash team.

"That will be part of our investigation," said Silber. "Talking with the driver, and also looking at the vehicle that's involved."

Silber also said that the wreck happened just after 4:30 p.m. in the Mount Clare Junction Shopping Mall off of West Pratt St.

Witnesses tell WJZ that it was so loud, it sounded like an explosion.

"I didn't know what it was really," said witness Shadawn Boyd.

Then, they saw the aftermath.

"Once I saw the fire department, the ambulance," Boyd said. "Everybody came. I I came up here to see what was going on and it was just a horrific scene."

Officers said at least two people involved are related in some way but who, and how, are just two of many unanswered questions as the investigation continues.

Police have not yet released the names or ages of the victims.

Any witnesses with information on the crash are urged to call (410) 396-2606.
