4.7 Magnitude Earthquake Reported Off Coast Of Ocean City
OCEAN CITY, Md. (WJZ) — An earthquake was reported off the coast of Ocean City, Maryland, at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday according to the U.S. Geological Survey Earthquake Hazards Program.
2011 Earthquake '100 Times Bigger' Than Tuesday's Earthquake Off OCMD Coast
The earthquake hit 136 miles off the coast of Ocean City and had a depth of 10 kilometers or 6.2 miles.
However, there is no chance of a tsunami, according to USGS, and more than 50 people reported feeling a slight tremor.
The USGS website shows dozens of people reported feeling a small rumble from Ocean Pines all the way down the coast of Virginia Beach and points south.
The town of Ocean City posted a statement on Facebook:
"The Town of Ocean City is aware of an earthquake that took place in the Atlantic, approximately 130 miles off shore and nearly 6 miles deep. Although we have seen no effects here, our Emergency Services Department has been in contact with our State partners and will be monitoring if needed."
