Michael Bloomberg Offers Md. Lawmakers Perspective On Gun Laws

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ) — Former New York City Mayor and potential 2020 presidential candidate Michael Bloomberg spent time with Maryland lawmakers Tuesday on guns and public safety.

[WJZ Reporter:] "So you would support having a police force on Johns Hopkins' campuses?"

"Yes, we have one, the question is are they armed and when you have a city that has the murder rate that Baltmore has I think it's ridiculous to think they shouldn't be armed. I'm also worried about the lives of the cops," Bloomberg said.

The effort to authorize a police force for Hopkins failed last year, and Senate President Mike Miller has said he will push for it this year. Bloomberg offered perspective on Maryland gun laws.

"Thank you to Maryland for being very active in passing some gun laws that make some sense. Not to take anybody's guns away but to make sure that we don't sell guns to people with criminal records or people with psychiatric problems or to minors and also that we have the ability to take guns away from people who are a danger to society," Bloomberg said.

The big question is if the possible presidential run is in his future.

"I said I'd take a look at it January, February. We're still in January," Bloomberg said.

Bloomberg addressed the US Naval Academy Tuesday evening, talking about leadership and hard work.
