Mussina Will Not Have Team Logo On Hall of Fame Plaque's Cap

COOPERSTOWN, N.Y. (AP) — Mike Mussina will not have a team logo on the cap of his Hall of Fame plaque.

The Hall announced the decision Friday, three days after Mussina was elected.

Mussina spent his first 10 major league seasons with the Baltimore Orioles and his last eight with the New York Yankees.

The Hall said the decision was made after consultation with Mussina and his family.

Mussina had said he needed time to make up his mind.

"Both the Yankees and the Orioles were instrumental in my reaching Cooperstown," Mussina said in a statement issued by the Hall. "I am proud to have played for these great organizations, in front of the tremendous fans in Baltimore and New York, and I am honored to have the opportunity to represent them both in the Hall of Fame."

Brandy Halladay, the wife of late pitcher Roy Halladay said Wednesday the cap on her husband's plaque would not have a logo. Halladay spent his first 12 big league seasons with Toronto and the last four with Philadelphia.

"Roy was incredibly proud of his accomplishments with both the Blue Jays and the Phillies," Brandy Halladay said in a statement. "We spent many great years in Toronto, where he established his career and became a Cy Young-winning pitcher. In Philadelphia, he reached the postseason, threw two no-hitters and won a second Cy Young Award.  As a family, and with the blessing of the Hall of Fame, we feel confident that Roy would have come to the same conclusion, had he known it to be an option. Both franchises, and their fans, meant so much to him."

Cap logos were clear for the rest of this year's inductees: Harold Baines (Chicago White Sox), Edgar Martinez (Seattle Mariners), Mariano Rivera (New York Yankees) and Lee Smith (Chicago Cubs).
