Still Dancing: Maryland Is Moving On In The NCAA Tournament Following A 79-77 Victory Over Belmont

JACKSONVILLE, Fl. (WJZ) -- Maryland is still dancing in the NCAA Tournament following a 79-77 victory over Belmont.

After the first half, the Bruins (27-5, 16-2 OVC) led the Terrapins (22-10, 13-7 Big Ten) 40-34.

Forward Jalen Smith led Maryland in scoring in the first half with nine points. Forward Bruno Fernando was right behind Smith with seven points.

In the second half, the Terrapins outscored the Bruins by eight to punch their ticket to the Round of 32.

Smith led the team in scoring with 19 points and Darryl Morsell dropped an additional 18.

Fernando finished with a double-double, scoring 14 points and grabbing 13 rebounds.

Fans across the state celebrated the Terrapins trip to the NCAA Tournament Thursday. The Greene Turtle in Columbia was one of many restaurants to have a watch party for the big game.

"I'm feeling really good today, we didn't play our best ball," a customer said. "Now we're playing with house money. We're the underdog, so it's all good. We got the monkey off our back."

Maryland will move onto the Round of 32 to face LSU.

The Terrapins and Tigers will play Saturday. Tip off is still TBD.
