Maryland House Speaker Michael Busch Lying In Repose

ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Maryland House Speaker Michael Busch is lying in repose in the rotunda of the Maryland State House.

"I want to thank you all for being here as we welcome House Speaker Michael Busch back to our historic state house one final time," said Gov. Larry Hogan on Monday.

Busch served at the state house for more than 30 years, and then became the longest-running speaker in Maryland's history.

Former U.S. Sen. Barbara Mikulski acknowledged his humility.

"Mike would be the first one to say it's not how long you serve, but how well you serve," She said.

Busch's family participated in the service Monday morning, and all afternoon, a line of people filed in to honor the one-time coach one last time.

Public visitation began at 1 p.m. Monday in Annapolis until 7 p.m. Monday night.

Public visitation will resume Tuesday from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m.

A funeral service has been scheduled for 11 am. Tuesday at St. John Neuman Church in Annapolis.

A reception honoring Busch will follow the service on Tuesday from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Atkinson Tower at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.

Busch, the longest serving House speaker in the state's history, died earlier this month at age 72. He was first elected to the House in 1986 and became speaker in 2003.
