Delaware Officer Charged With Attacking Injured Man, Lying About It

DEWEY BEACH, Del. (AP) — A grand jury has indicted a Delaware police officer accused of attacking an injured man and lying about it.

Dewey Beach police Officer Gregory Lynch Jr. surrendered to authorities Tuesday on charges including second-degree assault and perjury.

He was released on his own recognizance. A state news release says Lynch was dispatched this summer to help someone who had lost consciousness and suffered a head injury.

It says the injured man was loaded onto a stretcher, where he sat up and declared he didn't want to be hospitalized. It alleges Lynch then climbed onto the stretcher, beat the man, handcuffed him and pulled him into an ambulance by his neck.

The victim's injuries included a concussion and broken nose.

Lynch said the victim assaulted him, but witness accounts contradicted that.
