Assateague National Seashore To Increase Park Admission Fees

BERLIN, MD (AP) — Entrance fees to a national park along the Maryland and Virginia coast will soon see a price increase as the National Park Service ups rates nationwide.

The agency says guests to Assateague Island National Seashore will pay an extra $5 per certain admission categories beginning Jan. 1, 2020. The change comes as the U.S. Park Service standardizes rates for similar areas across the country. The agency says additional funds will go toward infrastructure and maintenance needs.

A week pass will increase to $25 per vehicle, $20 per motorcycle, $45 per annual pass and $15 per person entering by a commercial vehicle. Camping fees won't change.

News outlets report the seashore is one of about 100 national park sites that charge an entrance fee. About 300 others remain free.
