Stolen Amazon Delivery Van Found In Baltimore Hours After Going Missing, Driver Unhurt

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A stolen Amazon delivery van was found Monday in Baltimore after it was missing for several hours.

Police confirmed the vehicle was taken around 12:19 p.m. from the 1300 block of Sherwood Avenue. It was found later in the afternoon along Craddock Road, around two miles from where it disappeared.

At this time, police cannot say what, if any, packages were stolen inside the van.

The theft came during the busy holiday delivery season, and residents in the area said they couldn't believe what happened.

"It's funny but it's not funny. They took the whole truck," said Justin Campbell.

Amazon released a brief statement Monday night saying the driver was not harmed.

"We are thankful the delivery driver is safe and we are working with law enforcement as they investigate the incident," an Amazon spokesman said.

While it's not common for entire delivery trucks to disappear, package thefts happen quite often.

Last week, police in Anne Arundel County arrested a man for allegedly stealing packages and then selling the contents online.

"Because we are in the holiday season, there are a lot more packages being delivered, and because there are a lot more packages being delivered, there is a lot more opportunity for package theft," Baltimore County Police spokesperson Jennifer Peach recently told WJZ.

Police continue to investigate the theft and no arrests have been made so far.

Correction: An original version of this story said the theft occurred in Baltimore County, not Baltimore City.
