PIKESVILLE, Md. (WJZ) — Holiday travelers beware: Maryland State Police are stepping up patrols to catch impaired and distracted drivers this holiday season.

State police said troopers from all 23 barracks in Maryland will be watching for impaired drivers, distracted drivers, speeders and aggressive drivers, with extra patrols on the roads between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day.

Last year during that period, police said they made 171 DUI arrests and gave out more than 5,800 citations.
