ATF Offering $5K Reward For Arrest Of Suspect In Murder Of Carmen Rodriguez Shot At Kim's Deli

BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Baltimore City Police Thursday released surveillance video of the men believed to be involved in killing a mother inside her east Baltimore store last month.

The video shows the shooter getting out of a car on Streeper Street, walking down an alley before walking into Kim Deli & Grocery to buy some snacks.

When he returns to the car, police said about a minute passes, before another man gets out, walks into the store, and shoots the deli's owner, Carmen Rodriguez, in front of her kids.

"She gave them the money. Why would he shoot her? That's what I don't understand. He saw the kids." said Rodriguez's husband Derrick Galan.

Galan came back to the store Thursday for the first time.

"It's devastating. I have my wife. We're together for nine years. Four kids. I have a newborn, five months." Galan said.

They have owned the store for 15 years, he said. This is the first time they've been robbed.

"I don't want my wife to be another number. That's the point. Something needs to be done." He said.

"They don't care about being caught. They don't care about being seen," said neighbor Stacie Forrest.

"If they can catch this guy, we can feel better-- all the neighborhood, I think," said another neighbor, Antonio Flores.

Neighbors recall Rodriguez as a loving, hard-working mother who was always friendly with her customers. They said the neighborhood has not been the same since her death.

"All the neighborhood, I think, is really sad and angry," Flores said.

"Of course we'd be happy that the person or persons who did this would be apprehended, but that doesn't necessarily mean it would stop anybody from doing it again," Forrest said.

Police are calling the first man seen, the apparent getaway driver, a person of interest. They are looking for him and the shooter.

The ATF is offering $5,000 for information that leads to the arrest of the suspect(s).

"Do we feel safe going into any of these community stores, and there are tons of them. Nobody is really safe right now." Forrest said.

"I hope the police can do something and they catch these people," Flores said.

Memorials surround the store, which is now closed.
