Hospice Worker Convicted Of Stealing Patient's Credit Card
OCEAN SPRINGS, Md. (AP) — A Maryland hospice caregiver has been convicted of stealing a bedridden patient's credit card and using it to buy hundreds of dollars worth of beauty products and services, according to prosecutors.
Fedia Dorlus, 25, was found guilty of theft scheme between $100 and $1,500 last week, according to a Worcester County State's Attorney's Office statement obtained by the Salisbury Daily Times on Monday.
Dorlus was working in Ocean Pines last spring when she used the elderly woman's credit card to buy beauty products and spa treatments, prosecutors alleged. At the time,
Ocean Pines police received a theft report from the family of an elderly woman who had died of a terminal illness days earlier, a March 2019 statement from the department said.
Dorlus told officers the woman gave her the credit card to purchase herself a birthday gift, then admitted to buying nearly $300 worth of goods and services with it, investigators determined.
Family members countered that the victim had been bedridden and unable to communicate, according to the state's attorney's office. The victim died the day after Dorlus made the purchases, the newspaper reported.
A judge sentenced Dorlus to 120 days incarceration with 90 days suspended, as well as two years probation, the state's attorney's office release said.
