ANNAPOLIS, Md. (WJZ) — A bill that would ban balloon releases statewide has passed in the Maryland Senate.

SB28 would prohibit balloon releases in the state except for those used for scientific or government purposes. People who “knowingly and intentionally” organize or take part in balloon releases would face a penalty of up to $250.

Last year, Queen Anne’s County became the first county in the state to ban balloon releases.

The bill now moves to the House.

Great, we can ban balloons but not do anything about the skyrocketing Baltimore Homicide rate. Go Maryland!!

  2. Mary Finelli says:

It’s a lot easier to ban balloon releases than to stop homicides. Don’t put down something that will protect animals and the environment just because other problems exist.

People keep electing these nitwits, 11 shootings in Baltimore last weekend and this is what these nincompoops are doing. And yeah Mary balloons are a huge problem I see them everywhere.

A classic ludicrous response to efforts to halt a problem is to point out that it is not the ‘worst’ problem. Under this theory, we should identify the WORST problem we have. Then, work on THAT problem and never pay attention to other problems. I have always viewed balloon release as a typical human self centered behavior with no regard for the impact on others. I think it should be stopped. But I don’t think it is the WORST problem in the world.
