Safeway Reaches A Tentative Agreement, Avoids Strike

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- On the brink of a strike, Safeway and its workers have come to a tentative agreement.

After six months of negotiations, the agreement was made around 2 a.m. Thursday morning ahead of a vote to strike.

The Union said they were able to prevent cuts to retirement benefits and made progress with other issues.

The agreement will keep some 10,000 workers at Safeway stores across the state on the job.
