Brandon Scott Takes Lead Over Sheila Dixon In Baltimore's Mayoral Race

"I formally concede and offer my sincerest congratulations to a young man who is a native of this city, a product of our public schools, a young man I have watched grow in public service; a young man I have conversed with on many issues and one who has secured the mayoral democratic nomination."

Dixon took over as the Mayor of Baltimore in January 2007 when Martin O'Malley was sworn in as governor.   She served out the remaining term before being elected the first female Mayor and Baltimore's third black Mayor in November 2007.

Dixon resigned as Mayor in February 2010 after she was found guilty on one misdemeanor count of fraudulent misappropriation in connection with an incident where she allegedly took gift cards intended for the poor.
