TIMELINE: Maryland's First Major Winter Storm
BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A slow-moving winter storm hit the northeast Wednesday, including much of Maryland.
Snow began falling in Western Maryland Wednesday morning with the Baltimore area seeing its first flake around 11 a.m.
A number of winter storm watches and warnings were in effect across the state overnight.
Timeline of storm (central Maryland):
Through 2 p.m. -- Snow arrives in Maryland, heavy in some areas.
2 p.m. to 10 p.m. -- Snow mixes with sleet, creating a sloppy mess. Ice pellets will accumulate. During the late afternoon through Wednesday evening, warm air will nose its way in from the Atlantic and a period of sleet, freezing rain, and rain will occur across portions of central Maryland.
10 p.m. to 2 a.m. -- Freezing rain mixes in with .1 to .25 inches of ice accumulation is possible.
2 a.m. to 6 a.m. -- Back to snow before the system moves out of our area.
