Baltimore Officer Fires At Armed Robbery Suspect Who Was Driving Car Toward Him, Police Say

BALTIMORE (WJZ) -- A Baltimore city police officer fired twice at a suspect after the suspect drove at him head-on, police officials said late Thursday.

Police were on scene of an officer-involved shooting in the 2200 block of East Biddle Street. The call came in around 9 p.m.

Commissioner Michael Harrison said body camera footage showed the driver of a suspect vehicle drove toward the officer and struck him head-on.

The officer fired two shots into the front windshield and the suspect was hit in the shoulder.

Police said the driver then attempted to flee in the car before crashing a few blocks away. That's when he tried to run away from police, but was taken into custody. The suspect is expected to survive the shooting.

Harrison said the officer involved in the shooting is in "good condition and not injured."

Officials said that officers came into contact with the armed robbery suspect through "good investigative work."

They were searching for a vehicle suspected in multiple armed robberies in 2200 block of East Biddle Street.
