Katie Johnston is an Emmy Award-winning journalist, certified sUAS pilot and avid sports enthusiast. In her career, she’s produced videos reaching millions of people, covered high school, collegiate, and professional sports, interviewed celebrities and national politicians.

A native Kansan, Katie graduated from Kansas State University with B.A. in Journalism, Digital Media and a minor in Spanish. While in school, she was awarded the South Central Broadcasting Society first place award for on-air talent. She also snagged a first place Kansas Association of Broadcasters award while interning in college.

Katie comes to CBS Local from KWCH12 in her hometown of Wichita, Kansas. Her reporting took her across the state and country, often talking to people on the best or worst days of their lives. Work she did on the missing Lucas Hernandez case and Sedgwick County Fallen Deputy coverage landed two nominations and one Heartland Emmy Award in 2019.

Katie is now proud to call Fort Worth, Texas home; she enjoys exploring local shops and restaurants. You might catch her around the Metroplex training for her next marathon or obstacle course race. She loves meeting new people and hearing their stories.
