The Ports America Chesapeake Fourth of July Celebration runs from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Inner Harbor Amphitheater. The event includes music provided by the U.S. Naval Academy band Electric Brigade, whose repertoire includes Top 40 selections. At 9:30 p.m., the fireworks take to the sky. The 18-minute show by Pyrotecnico is set to music and will be launched from two barges in the harbor. The Harbor East neighborhood is an excellent place to catch a glimpse of the show. The fireworks display can also be seen from Fells Point and Federal Hill.

Take a fireworks cruise, which leaves from the Finger Piers in Baltimore. The three-hour cruise on a Watermark yacht offers a great view of the Inner Harbor fireworks display. It also provides a great view of the city from the Chesapeake Bay. The cruise features a cash bar and light snacks. Tickets for adults start at $59. Fireworks cruises are also offered in Annapolis.

Enjoy a patriotic, old-fashioned July 4th parade and celebration in Maryland's capital, Annapolis. The celebration begins at 6:30 p.m., with the parade that starts at Amos Garrett Boulevard and ends at the City Dock. At 8 p.m., the U.S. Naval Academy Band will provide a musical interlude at the Susan Campbell Park. Fireworks at the Annapolis Harbor begin at 9:15 p.m.

After enjoying July 4th activities, spend July 5 by having breakfast with the penguins at the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore. From 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., join the African black-footed penguins while having a catered outdoor breakfast at Rock Island. Penguin learning stations are provided. Zookeepers will be on hand to discuss the lives of the penguins and serve the birds their breakfast. Tickets for non-members are $65.
