Tennis is an old sport. First played in England in the mid 1850s, tennis rules have changed little over the years. Tennis, an Olympic sport, is popular with professionals and amateurs alike. In addition to the summer Olympics, tennis has four major tournaments, known as the Grand Slam. These Grand Slam tournaments are the Australian Open, the French Open, Wimbledon, and the U.S. Open. Tennis lovers can find plenty of courts near Baltimore to practice their backhand, forehand, or serve, including Cross Keys Tennis Club, Bare Hills Racquet and Fitness Club, and Green Spring Racquet Club.

Cross Keys Tennis Club features four indoor Deco II courts. In addition to the indoor Deco II courts, the club has two fitness areas for members to keep in shape. Located in the Village of Cross Keys in Baltimore, Cross Keys Tennis Club was opened over 40 years ago, the founders of the club sought to provide outstanding programming for all levels of play. Tennis leagues allow players to take part in regular matches and tournaments. Leagues are held Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday for men, and Friday for Seniors.
