Md. Police: Del. Man Shot, Tried To Ram Deputy

BERLIN, Md. (AP) -- Maryland State Police say a Delaware man driving a pickup was shot after trying to ram a Worcester County deputy investigating a burglary report.

State Police spokesman Greg Shipley says the deputy was investigating a burglary report Tuesday night at Venables Electric on Old Worcester Highway in Berlin. While getting out of her patrol car, a pickup drove from the rear of the building and initially stopped. When the driver was ordered to get out of the vehicle, he sped toward the deputy, who fired and pursued the vehicle.

State Police say the pickup pulled over a short time later and Matthew Collins, 28, of Millsboro, Del., was found wounded, and was arrested. State police say Collins' wounds are not believed to be life-threatening and he faces assault and theft charges.
