Repairs To Shut Down Escalators At 2 Stations

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Metro is continuing work on replacing escalators at its Foggy Bottom station, and work will begin this year on three of the escalators at the Dupont Circle station.

A Metro spokesman says the project that began in January to replace the three Foggy Bottom escalators and make other improvements to the entrance could take up to a year. Metro is closing one escalator at a time, while leaving the other two in service, during the replacement work. A stairway is also being built, as well as a canopy to cover the entrance. The station has just one portal through which passengers both enter and exit.

Metro also plans to begin work this year to replace the three escalators at the south entrance to Dupont Circle, at 19th Street.
